Enter Corcovado National Park on foot through Carate and La Leona, hike across remote beaches and tropical rainforest to Sirena Station, spend one night inside the park and return to Puerto Jimenez by boat.
This two-day expedition combines a demanding coastal hike with the opportunity to explore the trails around Sirena during the quieter afternoon and early-morning hours. It is designed for active travelers looking for a deeper and more adventurous way to experience Corcovado.
Check-in takes place in Puerto Jimenez at 5:20 a.m., followed by departure in shared 4×4 transportation at 5:30 a.m.
The drive crosses rural communities, rivers and rainforest landscapes along the southern Osa Peninsula. Arrival in Carate is expected between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m.
The coastal hike begins shortly after arrival and follows the Pacific shoreline toward La Leona Ranger Station, the main land entrance to Corcovado National Park.
Arrival at La Leona is expected at approximately 8:15 a.m. After completing the park registration, the group continues toward Sirena Station at around 8:30 a.m.
The route from La Leona to Sirena covers approximately 18 to 20 kilometers and normally takes between six and eight hours, depending on the pace of the group, trail conditions, tides and wildlife encounters.
Throughout the day, the trail moves between tropical forest, remote beaches, river areas and exposed coastal sections. Participants should expect sand, roots, mud, heat, humidity and several hours of continuous walking while carrying their personal overnight equipment.
A break for approved snacks and rest is taken at approximately 11:30 a.m. at a suitable location along the route.
The hike resumes at around 12:00 p.m. and continues through the afternoon toward Sirena Station.
Possible wildlife observations along the route include scarlet macaws, monkeys, coatis, agoutis, peccaries, anteaters, reptiles and a wide variety of tropical birds. Your certified guide will also help identify tracks, feeding signs, calls and other evidence of animal activity.
Wildlife observations are never guaranteed. Corcovado is a natural environment where animals move freely, and every journey through the park is different.
Arrival at Sirena Station is expected between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., depending on the group’s pace and conditions along the trail.
After checking in, leaving the equipment and settling into the shared sleeping facilities, participants have time to rest.
Dinner is served at approximately 6:00 p.m., followed by the overnight stay at Sirena Station.
The second day begins at approximately 5:00 a.m. with an early guided walk before sunrise.
This first exploration continues until around 7:00 a.m., when temperatures are cooler and birds and mammals often begin their morning activity.
Breakfast is served at approximately 7:30 a.m.
The second guided hike begins at around 8:30 a.m. and continues until approximately 10:45 a.m., following trails through lowland rainforest, river areas and open habitats near Sirena.
Possible observations may include tapirs, four species of monkeys, peccaries, coatis, agoutis, anteaters, crocodiles, scarlet macaws, toucans and many other mammals, reptiles and birds.
After returning to the station, lunch is served at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Participants collect their belongings and begin walking toward Sirena Beach at around 12:00 p.m.
The shared boat departs for Puerto Jimenez at approximately 12:45 p.m.
Arrival in Puerto Jimenez is expected between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m., although the schedule may vary according to ocean conditions, weather, tides, park regulations and operational logistics.
Accommodation is provided in the shared sleeping facilities at Sirena Station using individual bunk beds.
The station offers basic services for visitors staying inside a remote national park. Bedding is provided, but sleeping areas and common spaces are shared, privacy is limited and the experience should not be compared with hotel accommodation.
Participants should carry only the equipment needed for one night because all personal belongings must be transported during the long hike from Carate to Sirena.

The price does not include food during the first-day hike, additional drinks, personal equipment, travel insurance, hotel accommodation in Puerto Jimenez or gratuities.
Participants should bring closed hiking shoes or rubber boots, lightweight clothing, rain protection, insect repellent, sunscreen, enough drinking water, approved snacks for the first-day hike, personal medication, a flashlight, a reusable water bottle and waterproof protection for phones or cameras.
Sandals or water shoes are recommended for boarding the boat at Sirena Beach, but they are not suitable for the long forest hike.
A small and comfortable backpack is essential. Heavy luggage and unnecessary belongings should remain at the accommodation in Puerto Jimenez.
This tour is considered challenging and requires good physical condition.
