Discover a completely different side of the rainforest during a guided night walk in Drake Bay.
As daylight disappears, many animals that remain hidden during the day begin to move, hunt, feed and communicate. This experience offers the opportunity to explore the forest after dark and learn about the nocturnal species that make the Osa Peninsula one of Costa Rica’s most fascinating wildlife destinations.
The current meeting point is at the entrance of Finca Don Juan.
Check-in takes place at 6:20 p.m., ten minutes before the activity begins.
The guided walk starts at 6:30 p.m. and lasts approximately two and a half hours.
The tour finishes at around 9:00 p.m. at the same meeting point.
The exact meeting location will be confirmed before the activity in case operational conditions require a change.
Participants should arrive on time because the safety briefing and introduction take place before entering the trails.
After meeting the guide, the group receives a short introduction to the activity, trail conditions and safety recommendations.
The walk then begins through tropical forest trails, using handheld flashlights to search carefully among leaves, branches, tree trunks, streams and vegetation.
Possible observations may include frogs, snakes, lizards, spiders, scorpions, insects, sleeping birds and other animals adapted to life after dark. The guide will help locate wildlife and explain its behavior, camouflage, feeding strategies and role within the rainforest ecosystem.
Night walks are usually slow and observational rather than physically demanding. Frequent stops allow participants to look closely at small animals and details that are often missed during daytime tours.
Wildlife observations are never guaranteed.
The forest is a natural and unpredictable environment. The species encountered depend on rainfall, temperature, season, food availability and natural animal activity. Every night offers a different experience.

Participants should bring lightweight clothing, rain protection, insect repellent, drinking water and waterproof protection for phones or cameras.
Long pants are recommended because the activity takes place at night in a tropical forest environment.
Rubber boots and a handheld flashlight are provided as part of the tour.
Participants must remain with the guide and stay on the designated trails throughout the activity.
Wild animals, plants and natural objects must not be touched, collected or disturbed. Flash photography may be restricted when it could affect sensitive species.
The tour normally operates in light rain, since humid conditions can increase the activity of amphibians and other nocturnal wildlife. The route or duration may be adjusted if heavy rain, storms or unsafe trail conditions occur.
This experience is suitable for travelers interested in reptiles, amphibians, insects, photography and the less visible side of tropical biodiversity. The terrain may include mud, roots, wet leaves and uneven surfaces, but the pace is generally relaxed.
