Discover the southern side of Corcovado National Park on a full-day hiking adventure from Puerto Jiménez to Carate, La Leona and the Madrigal area.
The experience begins at 5:20 a.m. with check-in in Puerto Jiménez. At 5:30 a.m., the group departs by shared 4×4 toward Carate, traveling through rural communities, rivers and remote rainforest landscapes along the southern Osa Peninsula.
Arrival in Carate is expected between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. From there, the tour continues on foot along the Pacific coastline toward La Leona Ranger Station, the main land entrance to Corcovado National Park.
After completing the park registration, the guided hike continues toward the Madrigal area. Your certified local guide will help you identify animal tracks, bird calls, feeding signs, plants and the many subtle clues that reveal wildlife activity inside the forest.
A box lunch is included and will be taken during the late morning at an appropriate location. At around 12:00 p.m., the group begins the return hike toward La Leona and Carate.
Arrival back in Carate is expected at approximately 2:00 p.m., followed by the shared 4×4 journey to Puerto Jiménez. The tour normally finishes between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m.
This experience is especially suitable for active travelers who want to enter Corcovado by land rather than by boat. The route combines remote beaches, tropical forest, rivers and coastal scenery, making the journey itself an important part of the adventure.
Wildlife in this area may include scarlet macaws, toucans, monkeys, coatis, agoutis, peccaries, reptiles and many other species. However, wildlife observations are never guaranteed. Animals move freely in their natural environment, and every day inside Corcovado is different.
The hike is considered moderate to challenging and requires a reasonable level of physical fitness. Participants should be prepared to walk for several hours in tropical heat and humidity across sand, roots, mud and uneven terrain.
